Have you ever had a fabulous weekend planned, one that you had been looking forward to a while, just fall through?
We were supposed to go to Naples to meet up with some of Steve’s cousin & her family and see the art festival. I spent all of Friday working hard and thinking that we were going to be escaping Miami in the morning. I had no idea that our plans were even possibly going awry until I spoke to my husband at 5 pm. Apparently, he went home from work early with a HORRIBLE stomach thing. We aren’t quite sure if it was the stomach flu that is circulating or that fish sandwich he ate the night before. One thing is for certain though, he hasn’t been that sick in a LONG time. Hopefully, it will be a LONG time before it happens again.
Instead of enjoying the weekend, we all sat at home. Do you know how much MORE boring that is when you were expecting something fun? It is torturous. Life marches on even though we don’t have any future fun weekends planned for the time being. To be fair, I realize that people who live in a vacation destination shouldn’t complain. Now, if we could only get fun people to come and visit us.

Busy Bee
I am happy to announce that The Princess has so kindly tagged me. My week is all about crazy deadlines and our company moving to a new building, not to mention a sick baby (becoming the norm). Since I am neglecting the blog world, it is a great time for a tag. Here goes the 6 Weird Things Tag:
1. I can't identify the smell of pot. When someone is smoking it, I either don't notice or I just think it smells weird. I only know it is pot when someone else says so. I have never smoked it and did not have any pot smoking friends prior to moving to Miami. Even after moving here, I really didn't encounter it much (except at occasional concerts) until I was 29 and lived in the Bahamas.
2. I don't watch reality television shows unless you count documentaries. It is not that I have something against them, but for some reason I don't get sucked into the drama. I used to love MTV's Real World when I was in college, but that was probably because it was a break from the Happy Valley world.
3. I read somewhere that after 7 years, most people are doing something unrelated to their major in college. For me, it was my first job that was completely unrelated. I have been on that career track ever since.
4. My husband is in every imaginable way completely opposite of my father. So, some girls don't grow up to marry their "dads." I am glad I didn't.
5. I am pretty good at keeping in touch with old friends, especially ones that don't move a lot like I do. I still talk/e-mail/call about 4 friends from college, 5 from high school, 1 from Jr. High, and 1 from middle school. Only a couple of them occasionally read my blog.
6. When I was single in Miami most of my friends that I hung out with were married. Now that I am married, most of my friends are divorced. It should have been opposite.
There you have it. Now you know that it is true, I am weird, but it is better to be weird and interesting than normal and boring. If only I was weird in an interesting way...
I don't know if people will be reading my blog while I'm neglecting others, but I'll tag Ms. WizeUp, Ms. Reformatting, Ms. Lemon Blossom, and Ms. Anna.

It's for A Good Cause
When I was 9 years old, a bunch of my friends were Girl Scouts so my mom signed me up. Besides going camping & goofing off, the best part was Girl Scout cookie time. I have never been a sales person, but I just brought them home & everyone in my family seemed to scrounge up money every time they had the munchies. It also helped that my mom was always on some kind of health food/sugar free kick so my brothers and dad were happy to have yummy treats in the house (me too). Since then, I have had a special place in my heart for Girl Scout cookies (ok, I’m really just addicted to the Thin Mints).
I have often wondered why the Girl Scouts sell the cookies in January/February when everyone is supposedly working on their new years resolutions. This is a big diet and exercise time. If you think about it, this is the perfect time for an evil scheme. People want an excuse to cheat. Eating delicously fattening cookies will not make you feel guilty if it is for a good cause.
Now, you can guess why I have only lost 5 pounds (instead of the 10 I wanted to). ...Must have more Thin Mints...

Best Children's Song Ever
I've been working on teaching Lexi this song:
When My Mother Calls Me,
Quickly I Obey.
Because Mother Knows Just
What is Best
Each and Every Day!
If you know the other verses, just forget about them. I never sing those. This is the only one that matters. Right? As a child, I thought this song was ridiculous. Now, I am hoping my child believes it. All part of my evil parenting plan...

Happy Valentines Day!

For some unknown reason, Valentines this year seems special. Like all holidays, Lexi is having a party at daycare. They gave the parents a list of names last week so we could do cards for all the kids. Instead of buying the grocery store pack, I made all 45 (see I am still a kid). I also bought candy for the party, even though the babies don't get any. Even though my schedule has been so hectic, I managed to make Valentine cupcakes for Steve to take to work. I guess I am just drowning in the festive spirit.
To be honest, we don't have any plans. I will be cooking and we'll have a quiet dinner at home. We thought about going out or ordering food, but all the restaurants are so busy. We'll just eat and do a gift exchange. Perhaps, I should buy some strawberries for dipping in chocolate. That would make a great dessert and special Valentines Day fun.

Valentines Silliness
On the radio the other day, I heard that the zoo in NYC is hosting a special event for couples on Valentines. They are going to be discussing animal mating rituals. Even the idea of attending something like that makes me want to giggle. I would certainly be kicked out. I doubt they would appreciate Jr high like snickering.

Whoa Momma!
As I was dropping Lexi off at daycare yesterday, I noticed a new kid. When I walked out, I saw the back of a lady walking around to get into a large SUV. She had on trendy tight jeans, spike high heels, and a cute shirt. I could tell that she is all about image and sexiness. Then, I saw her bumper sticker. "Just ignore my magnificent tits." All I could do was laugh and think – You go girl! Embrace that shallowness and make it yours!

Five Truths Tag
It has been a long time since I have been tagged, but Wizeup has done the honors. The rules: Tell five truths about yourself that you haven't yet revealed. **I think I have been blogging for too long for that to be possible, so I'll list a few that might have been forgotten.**
1. The only times I have been in the hospital was when I was born & when I gave birth. Basically, I have never broken any bones. It isn't for lack of adventure just luck (knock on wood).
2. I don't like being referred to as a mam, lady or woman, because I don't want to be that old. I prefer girl, chic, gal, hot bombshell (*smiles*), etc. Even Blondie sounds better to me.
3. I had lots of pets when I was a kid, but haven't owned even one as an adult.
4. At the tender age of 12 my mom decided I should be responsible enough to pay for all of my own necessities including clothes. I wasn't given an allowance by the way. I babysat & for very little money, but all the time. I always struggled to buy clothes & I think that is the reason I buy too many now.
5. When I was born, I had lots & lots & lots of bright ugly orange hair. I'm glad that it became strawberry blonde rather quickly.

Scenes from SOBE on Super Bowl Weekend
I am inclined to say that South Beach was a bit disappointing over the weekend, but considering we were always home by 8pm that isn't a fair assessment. Parties never get started until after midnight. So, instead of harping on the fact that Art Deco weekend was more fascinating because of the booths and street performers, I'll just post photos.

On the Saturday Early Show

This morning (as usual), Lexi woke up at 6am and was ready to go. After a few hours of playing around, I flipped on the tv to see that CBS's Saturday Early Show was live on South Beach. They announced that the Indigo Girls were going to be doing a concert later on in the show. I hopped into the shower & quickly got Lexi ready. We booked it over to the Clevelander. The stage was set up over the pool. There was a really small crowd (who is up that early on SOBE?). We got really close. I knew the camera had caught us a few times, but I didn't know they did a close up near the end. Plus, the video starts out with us between the 2 singers. Here is the link (if you like the Indigo Girls & have nothing better to do):

TGIF & Super Bowl Weekend
I am sure that most of you have heard that the Super Bowl is in Miami this year and that South Beach is full of activities. It should make for a very interesting weekend and not because of the game. In fact, I am not partial to either team. Having a baby means that I will not be out late enough to see many of the celebrities or crazy stuff, but perhaps we'll see a few things on our walks.
