Tony Awards Opening Number

I rarely watch television. It probably happens two or three times a year for something I think my kids would like to see like the Superbowl. In fact, we went for a few years without any channels, so we really got out of the habit. We have Netflix and watch DVDs, but that is about it.

A few nights ago, I got an email informing me that someone we know composed a medley for the opening number of the Tony Awards. This isn't too surprising because he is a famous composer that works on lots of movies and television shows. My kids are related to the composer, so I made sure that we watched. We were extra pleased to see that James Corden was hosting. His Carpool Karaoke cracks us up.

The opening number was amazing, so I thought I'd share it here:

Sharing a Birthday

Yesterday, I discovered that I share a birthday with one of my favorite artists, Sarah McLachlan. I especially like that she is five years older than me. Happy Birthday Sarah!

Type Casting for Romance

In theory, I believe it is a little sad and confining to type cast an actor or a person for that matter.  However, I realize that I don’t like movies where Robin Williams is a bad guy.  I refuse to see them because even the idea sickens me.  This week, I’ve discovered that I also don’t like to think about Enrique Iglesias as a cheater.  I finally got around to looking up one of his most recent videos on YouTube:

I don't even consider myself a big fan, but he does remind me of Miami and I can't help but smile.  The video doesn't.  It definitely does not give off warm fuzzy feelings.  After watching it, I had to go watch his older videos that are much more romantic (albeit stalker type love):

Divorcee for a Year

Today is the one year anniversary of my divorce.  Mostly, I am happy but I feel a little sad today.  I guess remembering how hard it is to finally give up on something that you believed in and invested years in brings me down a little.  So... I am sharing the latest music video that makes me smile.  It is Jason Mraz's song "I'm Yours."

Break-up Song

Some people like to have a break-up song to help them delve into their emotions.  I prefer to laugh, so I like
P!nk's "So What."  For those of you who aren't P!nk fans, she is always a bit irreverent (some might say offensive - so don't watch if it might bother you).

Just Like Muriel Heslop

When I was in California, my mom decided that I needed to see one of her favorite movies of all times – Mama Mia. She bought the movie and of course I loved it. In fact, we watched it several times and she even bought me a copy. She said that the movie makes her feel happy and I would have to agree. I think it is a combination of the ABBA music, fun characters, beautiful ocean water, the Greek island, interesting story line, and amazing actors. I’ll add a clip for fun:



During our drive back, we listened to my sister’s ABBA Gold CD and my mom watched the movie again on the DVD player. When we came to Houston, we watched Muriel’s wedding because I have a copy and my sister hadn’t seen it before. There is a clip in there where Muriel explains why she had been obsessed with ABBA music and basically it was because it cheered her up. When Muriel’s life got better, she stopped listening because her life was “as good as an ABBA song.” For more fun, here is a clip from that movie:



My life has been quite tough (things I don’t want to go into on the internet), so I guess this is a sign that I need ABBA right now. I have watched Mama Mia a few times and have started listening to my old ABBA CD. I think this is better than therapy. Ok, at least it brings a smile to my face and it is cheaper than therapy.

Christmas Guilty Pleasure

For Thanksgiving, my freshman year of college, I took a road trip with a new friend. We went to San Diego to spend it with her family. On the drive, she popped in an old cassette of Wham! In one of the songs, and deep voice came on and said, "Touch This." We laughed until we cried and kept rewinding it. I can't even tell you what song it was. Of course, I've never heard that version on the radio, but since then all Wham and George Michael songs take me back to that trip. She is still one of my best friends, but we don't live close so these little flash backs are extra special.

As many of you know, I am quite a festive person. I like cheesy Christmas music. Combine that with a Wham song & you have a winner. Unfortunately, I've only heard their Christmas song twice this year and once was in Target (so that doesn't count). ...I googled it & found the video on YouTube. I'll make you all suffer with my guilty pleasure.
